My thought was that if your motivation for rejecting 1=0.999… is some notion that 0.999… gets ever closer to 1 but never ‘reaches’ it, the same reasoning should apply equally well to 1/3=0.333… That’s to say, 0.000…3 seems just as much an ‘infinitessimal’ as 0.000…1.
